Pirates review Spoilers inside by ~HerbalDrink:iconHerbalDrink:

We all know of the popularity of the Pirates movies. The first movie was very well done. The second and third ones remain rather mixed issues. I heard very mixed reviews about the second and third ones. That’s how I feel about the Pirates movies – Mixed.

The story was pretty much what needed the most improvement in Pirates. I think the stories of the movies actually could have done better as a series of novels, or maybe even a television series. (albeit very expensive one to film and produce) That way, they at least wouldn’t have the time constraints of an almost three-hour movie, so they could have enough time to explain the importance of some of the plot.

While watching the second and third movies of Pirates, the obvious flaw was in how much of the story they had. Especially in the third movie it seemed as if they wanted to fit in about two or three stories’ worth of material into one two-hour movie, so my cousins, sister, and I were wondering “What the heck?” with some of the important plot elements.

The most obvious one was Calypso… She was obviously an important character, being Davy Jones’ lover of course, but what exactly was the point of releasing her? I didn’t really get why it was so important. When they DO free Calypso from the voodoo-woman’s body, she essentially vanishes into a plothole or into the world of McGuffins.

What exactly was the significance of the “Calypso” plot? Aside from that she had been in love with Davy Jones, once they free her, she just vanishes…Is she the one who creates the Maelstrom where the final battle takes place? If she did, then they didn’t really do a good job of making it clear.

Now once we leave the story, we have some very good acting and special effects. There were some nice physical comedy scenes. The effects in the Final Battle in the Maelstrom scene was nothing short of amazing. Just seeing how much stuff went on during that scene alone made me wonder how many shots and Takes it took to perfect that scene. It wasn’t as anything quite as impressive as the amount of Blue-screen action in 300, but even if it was filmed using a Blue/Green Screen, that was definitely impressive effects there.

I enjoyed Pirates 3. All of them had some nice acting, physical comedy, and special effects. The story was really what shackled it down – It seemed as if they had about 4 short movies’ or 5 TV-seasons’ worth of material, but it seemed like they wanted to cram it all into a 167-minute movie.

Been out with family all day.

This is a review for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End. I did see some interesting previews in there. (Golden Compass)

I'm actually looking forward to Enchanted. It actually looks pretty funny.
